Cebu to host the next NYD
ZAMBOANGA City – National Youth Day 2017 host Archdiocese of Zamboanga officially announced on Nov. 9 Cebu as the next venue for the event.
“I was so happy because this is another challenge for the Cebu youth, to handle the next NYD,” Fr. Mark Romel Barneso, Archdiocese of Cebu youth commissioner, said in an interview.
According to the priest, the Archdiocese of Cebu is looking forward to the event for a number of reasons.
Warm Cebuano hospitality
“We are excited to showcase, of course the festivals we have, and how the [delegates] will encounter the warmest Cebuano hospitality,” he explained.
Barneso also shared that they believe their team is capable and experienced enough to host the youth event, considering past events they have organized.
“We hold annual Local World Youth Day[s] where we cater [to] 3 to 5 thousand delegates, and we had the International Eucharistic Congress [last 2016] — I believe that makes us capable,” he said.
Message to future pilgrims
He also noted that the NYD in Cebu will have the support not only of the Church hierarchy but also of the local government.
When asked to give a message to the future pilgrims of NYD 2019, the youth commissioner challenged them to muster thrice as many delegates as NYD 2017 had because “we are excited for you.”
“You will enjoy many things in Cebu,” he added. CBCPNews
