The Diocese of Imus in Cavite will be holding an in-depth ecological discussion and a plastic waste management workshop this month in line with Pope Francis’ three-year-old encyclical Laudato Si.
Set on July 20, the activity aims to fulfill the diocese’s goal to be a “Christian community of pro-God, pro-people, pro-life, pro-nature, and pro-nation disciples of Christ” by engaging the faithful “to value and protect clean air, water, and environment.”
“We feel the present effects of climate change and the destruction of the environment and if we do not give these attention, what we have worked so hard for since the beginning will slowly come crashing down. We need a sustainable environment for spiritual fulfillment and moral justice,” Fr. Alfredo Maramara, coordinator of the Diocesan Ministry on Ecology, said in Filipino.
The event will be held at the Brothers of Christ community in Brgy. Biclatan, General Trias City, Cavite from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Each parish is invited to send at least 10 participants from different mandated organizations and ministries.
Interested parties are requested to bring the following materials for the workshop:
- any form of plastic wrapper
- 20-inch bamboo sticks
“All of these [advocacies] depend on the steps that the present generation will take for us to fully accomplish the vision of our Diocese, and the legacy of this success will be fully inherited by the generations to come,” added the priest in Filipino. (Jonald Itugot/CBCPNews)
