Make Christ our light in 2019

Make Christ our light in 2019

A Very Happy and Healthy New Year! I believe that a healthy person is happy and is at peace with the Lord. The year 2018 may have brought us sorrows and frustrations, but let them be drowned by the blessings we received. Let us be thankful and grateful to our Lord.

Pope Francis’ advice to the priests: “We are good priests if we go to Jesus Christ, if we seek the Lord in prayer: the prayer of intercession, the prayer of adoration. If instead we distance ourselves from Jesus Christ, we have to compensate for this with other worldly attitudes. But the priest adores Jesus Christ, the priest speaks with Jesus Christ, the priest seeks Jesus Christ and allows himself to be sought by Jesus Christ. This is the centre of our lives. If we do not have this, we lose everything! And then what shall we give to the people?”

Last year, I visited my siblings in the U.S. We had Pilgrimage to 5 of the 21 California Mission Churches established by St. Junifero Serra—San Diego de Alcala, San Luis Rey de Francia, San Juan Capistrano, San Gabriel Arcangel, San Fernando Rey de Espaňa. The main goal of California Mission was to convert Native Americans into devoted Christians. Bishop Pablo Virgilio “Ambo” David told me that these mission churches are his inspirations in creating mission stations in his Diocese (Kalookan), bring the Church to the peripheries of Society. My siblings and I also had bonding moments during our road trip to Las Vegas, Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Vancouver and Victoria Island in Canada. I renewed acquaintance with friends and relatives. 2018 also gifted us with 2 new doctors, my nephew Eric Imperial and niece Ria Imperial.

2018 gave three new priests to the Diocese of Kalookan—Fr. Rene Richard Bernardo (my godson—I put on his vestment during the Solemn Ceremony of Admission to the Sacred Order), Fr. Jay Arvin De Leon and Fr. Phillippe Angelo Garcia; and 2 new Deacons—Rev. Paul Woo and Rev. Randy Leonardo.

In 2018, St. Clare of Assisi in Longos, Malabon City (also covers North Bay Boulevard South, Navotas City) became the 28th parish in Kalookan Diocese, with Fr. Cesar Malasa, OFM as parish priest. It was elevated from quasi parish to parish.

In 2018, Bishop Ambo created 13 mission stations ministered by Diocesan priests and deacons, religious priests, nuns and brothers. Of the 13 mission stations, two were elevated to Quasi Parish—Nuestra Seňora Delos Remedios in North Bay Boulevard North, Navotas City under Fr. Larry Quitain, SDDH, and Holy Trinity in Tinajeros, Malabon City under Fr. Richard Omol. More parishes, quasi parishes and mission stations will be created.

Let us welcome 2019 with hope and prayer for unity among Filipinos, political will and good governance by our government officials, and have Jesus Christ the light in our life.

Ms. Catriona Gray, a Filipina-Australian beauty from Bicol, was crowned Miss Universe 2018. This beauty and brain lady wowed everyone with his winning answer to the question: What is the most important lessons you’ve learned in your life…? She answered: “I worked a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila and (the) life there was very poor and very sad. I’ve always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look for the beauty in the faces of the children, and to be grateful. I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining, and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson. If I could teach (also) people to be grateful, we could have an amazing world where negativity could not grow and foster, and children would have smile on their face.”

January is the birth and death month of our father Benito Santiago, Sr. and the wedding anniversary of Tatay and Inay, Gloria. Happy Birthday Tatay; Happy Wedding Anniversary Tatay and Inay! We know you are happy with our Lord Jesus Christ. We love you, we miss you! Please continue to guide us! We thank the Lord for the gift of parents who struggled to give the best to each other and to their children. They gave us, their 7 children, the best education in the best schools – lawyer, doctor, 2 engineers, 3 CPA’s. We will not attain success were it not for our parents. Also, please allow me to greet my sister Flordeliza and brother-in-law Roberto Imperial Happy 29th Wedding Anniversary!
