Fr. Niño Jomel De Leon, one of the three newest priests of the Diocese of Malolos’, humbly expressed how his ordination has blessed him and his family, saying priesthood is his greatest dream.
“Being a priest is [all] I’ve ever wanted,” De Leon told CBCP News in an interview after his Primera Misa Solemne (First Solemn Mass) on Thursday, March 22, at the Parish of San Jose Ang Manggagawa in Panginay, Balagtas, Bulacan.
He also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to everyone who helped him realize this “ultimate dream”.
De Leon also said he wants to bring Christ to everyone he will be dealing with in the future, as he knows that priesthood comes with great devotion and responsibility.
Called and chosen
In his homily, De Leon’s predicador, Fr. John Michael Dela Cruz, shared how the new priest’s call to become one of the Lord’s servants comes from God. “Today, I say to you, Fr. Niño, that it is not you, nor other people but God who has chosen you to become a priest,” he said. “Priesthood is about humility and obedience, being able to obey and love God above all.”
To end, Dela Cruz also called upon the people present to pray for De Leon that he may be able to follow Jesus Christ relentlessly all his life.
Meanwhile, Dr. Susan de Leon, the newly ordained priest’s mother, expressed how joyful she was to see her son become a priest and serve the Church. “I am so blessed to have our first-born make his dream come true and it is really overwhelming that God has called him to be one,” she said in an interview with CBCP News.
“A child’s desire to embrace a vocation starts with his family; therefore, parents like us should all strive to serve as our child’s role models,” she added. “In our case, we tried our best to give Niño all the love and support he needed to achieve his dream.”
