NOVALICHES – The Diocese of Novaliches Commission on Faith in Formation held its annual Theological Pastoral Congress on Nov. 18 in preparation for the new liturgical theme, Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons.

In an interview, Vivien Talisayon, lay coordinator of the Novaliches Diocese Formation in Faith Commission, noted that the event’s primary objective was in line with the 2018 theme “to promote and sustain vocations to priesthood and religious life.”

“Our annual Theological-Pastoral Congress formally ushers the next liturgical year in preparation for the 500-year celebration of Christianity in the Philippines,” she said.

Renewed to evangelize

2018 being the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons, “the whole-day event was packed with talks and testimonials from chosen members of the clergy and religious,” added the coordinator.

“Participants were attentive to talks, [there was a] renewal of commitment activity for the clergy and consecrated persons and participants are expected to echo insights and ideas they learned and implement it in their respective groups,” shared Talisayon, describing the congress’ 919 participants from 65 parishes and 12 vicariates.

She further noted that with the congress’ theme “Renewed Servant-Leaders for the New Evangelization,” the activity, through input given by speakers, consecrated and lay persons alike were urged to be good examples and to lead holy lives.

Retreats, vocations promotions, and more

The Diocese of Novaliches has a whole year-plan for the 2018 celebration of Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons.

“Major expectations in this liturgical year are for parishes to have a vocation ministry, raise funds to support seminarians, and hold parish or vicariate seminars on priesthood or religious vocations for the youth,” said the Formation in Faith Commission lay coordinator.

They also plan to hold dialogues and retreats for the clergy and consecrated persons, promote vocations, and distribute modules.

The commission is publishing 33 modules written by and for parish lay leaders, which provide catecheses and pointers on pastoral leadership, together with the 6th diocesan 2018 Gospel reflections book in Filipino.
