Pope Francis wants ‘missionary’ parishes
MANILA – In a video message for the Holy Father’s September prayer intention, Pope Francis challenged parishes to be more than just offices but homes for people of society.
“Let us pray for our parishes, that they not be simple offices, but that [they may be] animated by a missionary spirit, may be places where faith is communicated and charity is seen,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of parishes being in contact with people’s lives and the realities of society.
The short video produced by the ‘Pope Video,’ depicted a Church with a missionary attitude and open doors.
“They have to be houses where the door is always open so as to go forth toward others,” explained the pope.
The Holy Father concluded his message saying: “The doors [of parishes] must be opened, so that Jesus can go out with all of the joy of his message. And it is important that this going-forth follows a clear proposal of faith.”
In an article from Vatican Radio, it was explained that the ‘Pope Video’ is an initiative of The Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network of the Apostleship of Prayer to assist in the worldwide dissemination of the Holy Father’s monthly intentions for the community.
