MANILA— Dipolog Bishop Severo Caermare has been appointed the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Iligan.

Caermare, 48, will oversee the diocese in an acting capacity until Pope Francis elects a new bishop.

The prelate’s appointment was made on Dec. 6, a day after the death of Bishop Elenito Galido who served the diocese for 11 years.

Galido passed away on Dec. 5 at a hospital in Iligan City, years after battling cirrhosis of the liver. He was 64.

Ordained priest at 26 in 1996, Caermare was appointed bishop of Dipolog in 2014, aged 45.

He has been a priest for 21 years and holds a Master’s degree in Theology and Pastoral Ministry. CBCPNews
