Simple yet meaningful.

The Quiapo-based Shrine of the Holy Face of Jesus on Wednesday celebrated the last day of this year’s Flores de Mayo by adding a defining feature on the traditional Santacruzan–street kids.

Clad in colorful dresses, the children lead the procession around some streets in Quiapo, carrying a large rosary.

Holy Face Sr. Olivia Edejer said that the participating street children are members of the Little Friends of the Holy Face of Jesus, an association for children ages 5 to 11.

She said that it has been part of their apostolate to gather, catechize and feed these street children every Tuesdays and Sundays.

“Since they [children] are already part of our community, we thought it best to include them in our Sagala activity,” she said.

One of the participants said she was grateful to join the Santacruzan since “opportunities like this comes seldom to kids like me.”
