CALBAYOG City – Members of Franciscan Youth (or YouFra) from the Samar and Bicol chapters, who were originally bound for Iligan City, offered prayers for peace in Marawi City during a special Mass held at Christ the King Chapel of the Christ the King College.

The said YouFra members who received updates about the cancellation of their national assembly scheduled on May 25 in Iligan City also prayed for the safety of people in the conflict area, especially the security of the Catholic priest and others who were hostaged by the Maute group on May 24.

During the homily, Fr. Bernardine Leones, OFM reminded the faithful about “true happiness”, emphasizing wisdom over knowledge. He said: “Wisdom is the ability to discern … what’s important, and what is not.”

Referring to the cancellation of the group’s planned trip to Iligan, he said, “We have no control of what’s happening in the world.” Youfra also held a simple candle-lighting ceremony outside the Shrine of Christ the King.

Iligan, a tourist destination because of its waterfalls, is just 38 kilometers from Marawi. CBCPNews
