In less than a week, two Catholic priests died of Covid-19 complications in the southern Philippine diocese of Malaybalay.

The latest death happened on May 4 after Fr. Pablo Salengua succumbed to the disease at a hospital in t nearby Cagayan de Oro City.

He was 67.

Salengua was the parish priest of the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Manolo Fortich town’s Dalirig village in Bukidnon province.

The diocese expressed grief over the death of yet another “beloved” Bukidnon priest.

“The diocese enjoins everyone to pray for the repose of his soul,” it said in a brief statement Tuesday. “His body is immediately brought for cremation.”

Salengua’s death came three days after 61-year old Fr. Diomedes Brigoli also died of illnesses related to coronavirus on May 1.

As a preventive measure against Covid-19, the entire bishop’s house compound was placed under temporary lockdown that started on May 2.

This also means that the chancery office is temporarily closed “until further notice”.

All bishop’s house personnel were tested for Covid-19 on May 3 and all were negative.
