Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando as apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Balanga on Saturday, July 22.
This followed after the installation of Bishop Ruperto Santos as the new bishop of the Diocese of Antipolo on the same day.
The apostolic nunciature in Manila said the appointment was with immediate effect.
An apostolic administrator is appointed to temporarily govern a diocese pending the appointment of a diocesan bishop.
Santos had served the Balanga diocese for 13 years. It was his first assignment as bishop.
Florentino, meanwhile, has been the archbishop of San Fernando since 2014.
Prior to becoming an archbishop, he was the bishop of the Diocese of Iba from 2004 to 2014. (Pocholo Angelo Obeso)
