After testing positive from coronavirus last month, Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando has recovered and was discharged from the hospital, his archdiocese said on Saturday.

The archbishop, who is turning 64 on March 14, was admitted to a local hospital on Feb. 27, after showing symptoms of Covid-19.

His positive result was confirmed on the following day after his swab test.

Lavarias, the archdiocese said, will continue his mandatory quarantine at his residence.

In a statement, Lavarias thanked the hospital workers who took care of him and those who prayed for his recovery.

“May God share with you all the graces and blessings that He continues to shower upon me at this very moment,” he said.

Lavarias became the ninth prelate to be infected with the virus. Two of them, however, succumbed to the disease last year.

On Feb. 28, Archbishop Jose Palma and retired Auxiliary Bishop Antonio Rañola of Cebu were also discharged from the hospital after recovering from Covid-19.
