CEBU City— The rector of the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño urged devotees on Thursday to renew their commitment as missionary disciples in the task of new evangelization.
In his homily during the first novena Mass of the 453rd Fiesta Senor, Augustinian Fr. Pacifico Nohara Jr., urged the faithful participate in the life of the Church and take actions according to the Gospel.
For this to be possible, he reminded the devotees about what it takes to lead a Christian life.
“Let us choose the path of righteousness, let us choose to be servants of the Lord, and let us choose to participate in the mission of the Church as new evangelizers,” Nohara said.
Local authorities said around 80,000 people attended the Mass inside the basilica and joined the penitential “Walk with Jesus” while bringing along with the lighted candles and images of Sto. Niño.
The feast carries the theme: “Sto. Niño: Inspiration of Renewed Disciples for New Evangelization,” which is in line with this year’s Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons declared by the CBCP. EUNICE JOSE/CBCPNews
