The Vatican’s envoy to the Philippines ended the Marian month by urging Filipino Catholics to live their title as ‘pueblo amante de Maria’ or people in love with Mary.
Archbishop Charles Brown on Tuesday led Mass to mark the fifth anniversary of the pontifical coronation of the image of Our Lady of Aranzazu in San Mateo, Rizal.
In his homily, he urged the faithful to live their devotion by imitating Mary’s obedience to God.
“Let us be worthy of the title of the Filipino people ‘pueblo amante de Maria’ (people in love with Mary),” Brown said.
“Let us love her because she is the one who has brought God into the world by her obedience and she is the one who constantly intercedes for us before Jesus,” he said.
Enshrined at her diocesan shrine, the image received canonical coronation on May 31, 2017, in a ceremony led by Cardinal Orlando Quevedo, the then archbishop of Cotabato.
Tuesday’s celebration was also highlighted with the reenactment of the image’s crowning.
The statue is also the third canonically crowned Marian image in the Diocese of Antipolo after the image of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo in 1926 and Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina in 2005.
