The youth arm of the Catholic Church exhorted young Filipinos not to give up on justice and care for the country.
The bishops of the Episcopal Commission on Youth urged the young people to dream not only for themselves and their families, but also for their community and the needy.
“Arise! Let us not give up on kindness and charity. Let us not give up the search for truth and justice,” the bishops said. “Let our mercy and compassion overflow.”
“Dream for your fellow young people, your brothers and sisters, especially those in the margins,” they said.
The call was contained in a message for this year’s National Youth Day on December 16 and signed by the commission’s head, Bishop Rex Andrew Alarcon of Daet, and its member bishops.
In the context of next year’s local and national elections, the bishops also urged the youth to fight selfishness, indifference by “making good choices”.
“Our freedom is perfected by constantly choosing the good. Choosing evil is an abuse of our freedom,” the bishops said.
“Arise and dream once again for our beloved country, the Philippines. Let us save our country together,” they added.
