A Catholic parish in this town launched a Rosary devotion with a charitable action program on Jan. 1, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

Known as “From Beads to Deeds,” the program of the Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario in Barrio Sto. Rosario aims to strengthen the devotion to the rosary by incorporating a pattern of faith and action that emphasizes the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

Parish Administrator Fr. Lou Salvador Jess De Silva said the campaign is part of the the parish’s over-all project for the further promotion of the devotion to Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario de Hagonoy.

The image was crowned in a solemn celebration by Malolos Bishop Dennis Villarojo last October 7, 2019 during the parish fiesta.

According to De Silva, since in every new year “people focus on their new year’s resolutions, which often focus on helping themselves than helping others … we promoted this campaign in order to help people through the rosary prayer to help other people in line with charity”.

The campaign is comprised of a card that has a list of charitable acts on the front and a sketch of the rosary at the back.

“Whenever the devotee prays the rosary, he prays the corresponding prayer of the bead and then picks one of the acts of charity in front of the card to do as part of that prayer,” De Silva said.

He added, “once he or she finishes that act of charity, he turns the card again to shade the bead and go on to the next one until the devotee finishes the rosary”.

Hundreds of “From Beads to Deeds” cards were given to parishioners and pilgrims who attended the New Year’s Eve Mass on Dec. 31 and in all the masses of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on Jan. 1.

The parish aims to produce more of these cards, especially during the regular “Recorrida” or the visits of the pilgrim image of Our Lady of the Rosary to different parishes in and out of the Diocese of Malolos.

For other devotees who wish to have such prayer cards for devotional purposes, one can inquire from the parish office through telephone number (044) 794-5606 or contact the parish Facebook page Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario de Hagonoy.
