Two Marian images venerated by the faithful in this town have been announced to receive a canonical and an episcopal coronation respectively.

La Purisima Concepcion, patroness of the parish at Poblacion, and Nuestra Señora del Carmen de San Sebastian of the parish at barrio Pulong Buhangin are to be imparted a Marian coronation according to the rite of the Order of the Crowning of the Image of the Blessed Virgin Mary laid down by the Vatican’s Congregation on Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments.

La Purisima Concepcion is the titular patroness of the town, having been known for its miraculous intercession throughout the years.

Granted by an episcopal coronation by the late Bishop Jose Oliveros of Malolos on March 3, 2018, the parishioners petitioned Pope Francis for a canonical coronation.

According to the parish announcement, a coffee-table book entitled: La Purisima Concepcion: Ang Mapaghimalang Birhen was sent to the Vatican for the Holy Father, translated both in English and Italian for the better understanding of the sacred congregation.

On Nov. 21, 2018, the documents for the canonical coronation were sent to the Diocese of Malolos Pastoral Center for checking by curia officials.

On February 7, 2019 Archbishop Gabrielle Caccia, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, received the approved compilation of requirements to be sent to the Vatican.

According to the decree, the petition was approved on March 28, 2019 and was announced publicly by Parish Priest Msgr. Ranilo Trillana on Sunday.

In Pulong Buhangin, the first known replica of Nuestra Señora del Carmen de San Sebastian will also be crowned.

The decree, signed by Cubao Bishop and Malolos Apostolic Administrator Honesto Ongtioco, was made public on Sunday by Parish Priest Fr. Edgardo De Jesus.

The granted petition recognizes the intercession of the three-centuries old image, received by the parish on February 9, 1665 through the Augustinian Recollect friars of San Sebastian Basilica in Quiapo, Manila after a miraculous happenstance among the faithful in the barrio.

Since the reception of the image by former Parish Priest, the late Msgr. Jose Aguinaldo, the parish has received “insurmountable blessings”. Hence a “traslacion” is held every February, which is considered the parish’s traditional feast.

The same celebration occurs at the Basilica in Manila to honor the arrival of the first image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel to the country.

The dates of the coronations are yet to be announced.
