Two priests have tested positive for the coronavirus disease, according to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Caceres.
In a circular released July 27, Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona said that one was infected due to the activity of “pagsungko” or the visit of Our Lady of Peñafrancia’s image to a parish.
“It is unfortunate to inform you that two of our brother-priests were tested positive for Covid-19,” Archbishop Tirona said.
“For this reason, we suspend all ‘Pagsungko ni Ina’ within the archdiocese in order to safeguard and protect the faithful from the spread of Covid-19,” he said.
On Aug. 3, the Diocese of Kalookan announced that aside from retired Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez, one priest, one deacon, and two seminarians also came out Covid-19 positive.
Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, however, said that one of the seminarians has now recovered, as he asked for prayers for the fast recovery of the other patients.
