Cardinal Jose Advincula of Manila on Wednesday offered Mass for Covid-19 frontliners, honoring them for their service and sacrifice.

In his homily at the San Felipe Neri Parish Church in Mandaluyong City, he said that frontliners are “modern day heroes” fulfilling their mission.

“Like the Blessed Mother, God chose you to do an important mission, God chose you to be His instruments. That’s why in this battle against Covid-19, you are the heroes,” Advincula said.

The cardinal emphasized that the contributions of frontliners were not just part of their job but also a response to their mission.

“You are not just doing us a favor; you are also doing God a favor so He is also thankful for your services. What you are doing is not just work, it is a mission,” he said.

During the Mass, some doctors, nurses, hospital personnel, food delivery staff, military, and police offered candles and prayers to a memorial of fallen heroes of the pandemic.

“Thank you because by the services you provide, you keep many of us safe,” Advincula said. “Continue to show your love for God through your service to others.”
