A Catholic global maritime charity is starting a campaign to honor the services and sacrifices of seafarers.

Dubbed as #NoShippingNoShopping, the awareness initiative will be launched on June 25, the annual Day of the Seafarers (DotS) and will end on the same day next year.

The Stella Maris — Philippines said the campaign is a video message thanking seafarers for their contributions and role in the world trade and economy.

“It is a way of recognizing the efforts of the seafarers who sacrifice their lives being on the deep waters and bear being away from their families to help provide the needs of the people worldwide— food, medicines, housing materials, etc.,” it said.

“The reality is that without the seafarers, there is no shipping. And without shipping, there is no shopping,” it stressed.

The short video should include expressions of gratitude to the seafarers in the language of choice of the sender.

Each sender may submit up to five videos that would be uploaded into the different online platform of the Scalabrinian network of Stella Maris.

Videos may be sent to smsnetw@gmail.com. Interested parties may also inquire through their Facebook page.

Stella Maris is part of the Catholic Church’s missionary work for seafarers and their families through its network of chaplains and seafarer center, which are a key component of the Apostleship of the Sea (AoS).

The AoS is an agency operated globally under the auspices of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrant and itinerant People.
