The Catholic Church’s health care ministry paid tribute to one of the “heroes”, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic— the nurses.
The bishops’ Episcopal Commission on Health Care (ECHC) said the biggest health crisis of the generation showed how vital the role of nurses in providing health care services to the public.
In its message for the Nurses’ Week 2022, the ECHC asked the public to thank and “show our appreciation for the compassion and dedication of our nurses because they deserve to know that they make a difference.”
“Our hospital chaplains, spiritual directors and lay collaborators have given importance to our nurses,” it said.
Nurses’ Week is observed every last week of October by virtue of Proclamation No. 539 signed by then President Carlos Garcia in 1958.
The Philippine Nurses Association was tasked to take charge of the observance of Nurses’ Week “to fully develop consciousness and understanding among our people on the importance and availability of nursing resources in the country”.
