A Catholic archbishop on Saturday called on social communication ministry workers to use the digital media as a means to witness to the truth.

Archbishop Jose Palma of Cebu emphasized truth as the cornerstone of communication during the 12th Catholic Social Media Summit (CSMS) at Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Mandaue City.

“That’s why, we say, bearing witness to the truth or truthfulness, which is at the heart of communication, is following God and imitating Christ,” Palma said in his homily at the school’s Cor Jesu Oratory.

The archbishop then offered some key points on truthfulness: truth in being, truth in thinking, truth in acting, and truth in speaking.

“We pray that we will be true, speak true, think true and act true in prayer,” Palma said.

He also expressed hope that the participants will embrace their roles as communicators “and influencers of God’s mercy and love” .

More than 350 participants joined this year’s CSMS, organized by YouthPinoy and hosted by the Archdiocese of Cebu through its Cebu Archdiocesan Digital Communications Ministry.

Now in its 12th year, the event’s topics and discussions revolved around the theme “Hybrid: Create, Collab and Commune”.

“I know that this CSMS certainly will bear fruit in all of us that, in a very special way, we will know what it means to receive the communication of God,” Palma added.
