Church prepares for Ash Wednesday

A Redemptorist priest burns palms to make ashes for Ash Wednesday services at the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, also known as the Baclaran Church, March 3, 2019. Thousands of faithful across the country are expected to attend Masses and receive ashes on their foreheads on Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period of fasting and penance for Catholics before the Holy Week and Easter.
