Faithful reminded: Mark of Marian devotion is obedience

ANTIPOLO City – In a country often called “pueblo amante de Maria” (a people in love with Mary), a bishop reminds the faithful that the true mark of being a Marian devotee is obedience.
“Be obedient to God… that’s how you will truly value Mary,” said Antipolo Bishop Francisco de Leon in a Mass held on July 4 to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the arrival of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage image in the country.
In his homily, the prelate pointed that the true essence of this celebration was for the faithful to reflect on the “queenship of Mary.”
“Being true devotees of Marian images means following Mary…And Mary always says, ‘Follow what Jesus tells you,’” he added.
Parishioners and devotees gathered to mark the closing of the pilgrimage season and 90th canonical coronation anniversary of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage.
The parish pastoral community spearheaded the event.
“After months of planning, I am relieved because for the first time I have witnessed the crowning. Even though it was just a re-enactment, I feel so blessed,” teary-eyed Thea Sangalang, head of the social communications ministry, shared.
She added: “I am grateful to have a team that’s flexible and passionate, and they really know their purpose.”
According to Sangalang, no matter how tiring it was to organize the event, all the sweat and efforts were worth it. Everything they have done was “for God.”
She also expressed gratitude for Fr. Tolentino’s efforts during the preparations that made the event “most reflective and fruitful.”
The annual celebration began with the Holy Mass, which was also concelebrated by shrine rector Fr. Reynante Tolentino, followed by the grand procession of the Tres Coronadas: Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje, Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados of Marikina, and Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu of San Mateo Rizal.
