The archbishop of Lipa has dissolved the “Family of the Immaculate Mediatrix of All Graces and of St. Francis” as a public association in the archdiocese.
The decision was made in a decree issued by Archbishop Gilbert Garcera on February 26.
Erected in June 2014, the association was formerly known as the “Franciscans of the Immaculate Conception”, whose 17 founding members were seminarians from 5 countries, mostly from Italy.
They were, however, spread out in the Archdiocese of Lipa and in Viterbo and Pisa, both in Italy.
Garcera said it is “impossible” for him to supervise an association whose members are scattered in the Philippines and abroad “for not being manageably within the reach”.
He said that the major presence of foreigners also made the archdiocese “ill-equipped” to form the them “indigenously”.
The continued existence of the association could also be “an occasion for disturbance, albeit unintended by us, in the internal life of the Pontifical Institute of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate”.
Citing the said grounds and after consultation with other church authorities, Garcera decided to “suppress” the public association of the faithful.
