The Marian Youth Congress in Naga City has attracted more than 8,000 delegates from all over the Bicol region over the weekend.
The annual gathering was timed as the Caceres archdiocese prepares for the feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia next month.
The event reflected on the theme “I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word”, anchored from this year’s World Youth Day (WYD) and National Youth Day (NYD) celebrations.
The gathering was opened with a Mass officiated by Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona of Caceres at the city’s JMR Coliseum.
In his homily, the archbishop called on the young people to draw inspiration from Mary as the “model” of service.
“As servants, we should be happy before Jesus, we should be at peace before Jesus, we should not be afraid before Jesus,” Tirona said.
The whole-day event featured Marian catechesis and animations and was highlighted with a procession from the coliseum to the Minor Basilica of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia.
The Caceres archdiocese will also be hosting the NYD in 2021, which is also the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines. CBCPNEWS
