The local church in the Vicariate of Puerto Princesa highlighted the sacredness of the environment during its recent celebration of National Bible Sunday on Jan. 27.
Some 300 parishioners of St. Luke The Evangelist Parish in Quezon, Palawan held a “green Bible” procession and joined in ecology-themed Bible games following a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Peter Tran Xuan Vu, SVD.
“We featured Bible verses that [have] something to do with protecting the environment, caring for our own common home,” shared Vu in an interview, adding that the said efforts were in response to Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si.
The priest particularly thanked all the young parishioners who served as frontliners of the whole celebration. He said it is a good indication that the Church is giving importance to the role of young people, as the country celebrates Year of the Youth this year.
Fr. Vu heads the Ministry of the Bible Apostolate in the Puerto Princesa vicariate.
