Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando has contracted coronavirus, the archdiocese said Sunday.
The archbishop “tested positive of Covid-19 today”, Fr. Francis Dizon, the archdiocese’s vicar general, said in a circular.
The 63-year old, who is the vice chairman of the bishops’ Commission on Clergy, remains in stable condition.
“Let us all pray for his steady and speedy recover,” Dizon said.
“The people who have been in close contact with the archbishop have been duly informed about the matter,” he added.
Lavarias contracted the virus as two other bishops have just recovered from the disease.
Cebu Daily News reported that Archbishop Jose Palma and retired Auxiliary Bishop Antonio Rañola have been cleared from the virus.
The bishops, the report added, are expected to be discharged from the hospital between Feb. 28 and March 1.
