With the words of the Responsorial Psalm, we prayed: “O God… my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water” (Ps 63:2).

Dear friends who have come here from around the whole world for World Youth Day Lisbon 2023.
yes, we are hurt, and we may have every reason to be offended. But remember that we take offense only for love of God and of our faith. Let that love teach us, not to react, but to respond in a spiritually intelligent way.
I am deeply humbled, blessed and honored to stand before you today, and to speak to you as a fellow Lasallian. In the spirit of synodality, I humbly accept this Honorary Doctorate in the name of the People of God in the Archdiocese of Manila, whom I joyfully minister to as their shepherd and servant.
We are gathered together on this feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Mother, upon the request of the Holy Father Pope Francis, to offer a day of prayer for the coming Synod on Synodality in Rome.
