The Diocese of the Parañaque announced Wednesday that the canonical coronation of the image of Mary, Help of Christians enshrined at her national shrine will be held on May 24.
The ceremony will coincide with the feast of the said Marian title, according to the diocese.
The Vatican recently granted the request for the pontifical coronation of the 100-year old image.
The diocese said the statue was brought to the nation by Archbishop Guglielmo Piani, former Apostolic Delegate to the Philippines.
This year also marks the 100th anniversary of Archbishop Piani’s arrival in the country.
The image of Mary, Help of Christians will be the second canonically crowned image in the diocese, and the first since its establishment in 2002.
The more than 400-year old image of Nuestra Señora del Buen Suceso, venerated at Saint Andrew’s Cathedral was canonically crowned on Sept. 8, 2000.
