Praying for healthy and peaceful year 2020!
Wishing everyone a very Healthy, Peaceful, Happy and Prosperous New Year! These are my prayers for my family, relatives, friends and our readers for the year 2020. We need to be healthy in mind, strong in body and confident in spirit to be at peace with ourselves and at peace with the world. When we are at peace, we are happy, not bothered by any worries in life. When we are happy, we are prosperous; we do not need to spend our savings to cure illnesses, we do not care whether we acquire the luxuries in life. At the end of the day, we thank our Lord for making us firm in our faith, grateful that that we have more than enough to live our life on earth.
Being sick these days requires a lot of money to pay for doctors’ fee, medicines and in other cases, laboratory tests. It is not enough to have Philhealth benefits and senior citizen’s benefits, the latter available only to 60 years old and above. How about the children? How about the adults who are 59 years old and below? For government employees who are confined in government hospitals, they have additional 20% discount on top of the Philhealth benefits. For individuals who opted to buy medical insurance, the balance of medical and hospital bills net of Philhealth and senior citizen’s discount are covered by the insurance. For those over 65 years of age, they are disqualified by the HMO or Health Maintenance Organization. The HMO provides comprehensive health care to voluntarily enrolled individuals and families in a particular geographic area. It ensures delivery of basic and supplementary health maintenance and treatment services including inpatient and ambulatory care to a voluntarily enrolled group of persons for a premium. There are, however, some HMOs which offered to those above 65 years old, for a certain fee, free laboratory tests but not hospitalization.
When the Holy Father appointed His Eminence Luis Antonio “Chito” Cardinal Tagle as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (Propaganda Fide), the latter becomes a member of the Roman Curia, as it is one of the top offices at the Vatican. Cardinal Tagle will be based in Rome. It may also mean vacating his position as Archbishop of the Roman Archdiocese of Manila. As sede vacante, it is everybody’s guess who will be the next Archbishop of Manila.
It is less than 10 days when the Diocese of Kalookan holds its 4th LaYKo si Pads Clergy Concert series. LaYko si Pads Suportahan Kita Clergy Concert will be held on January 13, 2020, at 7:00 in the evening, at PICC Plenary Hall, Cultural Center Complex, Pasay City. The priests and religious nuns of the Diocese, together with surprise celebrity guests, will serenade their parishioners, sponsors and the audience with their favorite songs and dance. The concert proceeds will be used for the completion of the construction of the Divine Mercy Spiritual Renewal Center (Center), the retirement home of retired priests of the Diocese and the formation house of seminarians and the laity. The Concert is the joint fund raising project of the Diocese of Kalookan and the Council of the Laity of Kalookan.
Early in July, the Diocese of Kalookan and the Council of the Laity of Kalookan invited His Eminence Luis Antonio “Chito” Cardinal Tagle to join the LaYKo si Pads fund raising Clergy Concert. He accepted the invitation because he believes that retired priests must be taken care of. The Archdiocese of Manila has retirement home, called Cardinal Sin Welcome Home at Our Lady of Loreto Parish in Sampaloc, Manila. It was built in 2002 and takes care of 17 elderly priests.
Then, early in December, Pope Francis announced the appointment of Cardinal Tagle to the Roman Curia. The Concert Committee got worried, will he still be available for the Concert? Then, lo and behold! Then in early January, the Cardinal texted Fr. Jerome Cruz, our Vicar General and Rector of San Roque Cathedral, inquiring about the Clergy Concert. Fr. Jerome replied immediately. Not getting an immediate response to his text, Fr. Jerome requested this representation, as President of the Council of the Laity of Kalookan, to go to Arzobispado de Manila to confirm the availability of the Cardinal.
After tense and stress-filled meetings and waiting, we got the confirmation, Cardinal Tagle will grace our January 13 Clergy Concert! It will be his last Concert before he goes to Vatican. He will render solo song and a duet with Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio “Ambo” David.
For generous individuals/corporations who may want to give donations, please make your checks payable to the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kalookan; Official Receipt will be issued. To buy concert tickets, please contact your parish office or the Curia Office c/o John Arwin Palileo at 8 288-9035 (landline) or 0925-567-1334 (mobile) or Atty. Au Santiago at firstname.lastname@example.org.
