The Redemptorist Province of Cebu has elected Fr. Edilberto Cepe as its new provincial superior, the congregation announced Tuesday.
“Please join us in praying with and for Fr. Bert for a spirit-led leadership as he takes on this huge and important responsibility,” the congregation said in a social media post.
Fr. Cepe is an electrical engineer by profession and worked with the National Steel Corporation in Iligan City before he joined the Redemptorist.
He was professed on May 7, 1999 and was ordained on April 24, 2004.
As a Redemptorist, he shifted from being an engineer to a Scripture exegete. He had his licentiate at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome.
He has also been teaching Scriptures at St. Alphonsus Theological and Mission Institute (SATMI) and at the Regional Major Seminary in Davao City.
As the province’s then vicar, he assumed its leadership by right of succession after the death of his predecessor, Fr. Copernicus Perez, in August 2021.
The Redemptorist Province of Cebu covers its mission territories in the Visayas and Mindanao regions, while the Redemptorist Vice-Province of Manila covers Luzon.
