Catechists are called to live their mission, by preaching the Gospel through concrete actions, a Catholic bishop said.
Speaking during the diocesan celebration of the Catechetical Day on Oct. 5, Bishop Arturo Bastes of Sorsogon said that like all the faithful, catechists are called to holiness.
More than 880 catechists from the diocese’s 31 parishes attended the event held at the Parish of St. Lawrence the Deacon in Prieto Diaz town.
In his homily, the prelate stressed the need for catechists to live, believe and witness the Gospel so that they may be able to teach not only from their mouths but also from their hearts.
He further challenged the catechists to make God the center of their lives because “the fullness of joy could only be found in Jesus”.
The gathering was also highlighted with testimonies from some long-time catechists.
Catechetical Day is a yearly gathering to commemorate the works of catechists for their contribution to Catholic education.
