A musical play about Saint Pedro Calungsod is heading to Batangas to celebrate the Year of the Youth.
The Immaculate Conception Parish in Mataasnakahoy announced that the benefit show will be staged at the town’s gym on Aug. 16.
The musical “Pedro: Awit at Indak” has been touring the country since 2015 to introduce the life of the country’s second saint and martyr.
The Parish Youth Ministry of Mataasnakahoy said they also want to challenge young people to be saints in their own way.
Proceeds of the show will be used to fund the construction of the Parish Youth Center and its programs and activities.
Helming the production is actor Jon Achaval, and is presented by Bakhita Canossa Foundation and EV Music Productions.
Playing the role of St. Pedro is Ron Gohel, a winner of the 2016 World Championship of Performing Arts in Long Beach, California. Other casts include professional stage actors and actresses.
Calungsod was beatified by St. John Paul II in 2000. He was canonized in 2012.
St. Pedro Calungsod is now revered as patron of catechists and young missionaries.
