Retired Bishop Teodoro Bacani of Novaliches assured that he is “up and about” after collapsing while presiding over a Mass on Monday.
The incident was caught on video and went viral on social media, drawing concerns from people especially those who know him.
The bishop said he was touched by the concerns expressed for his well-being, but wanted to assure the public all is well with him and his health.
“I’m now very well,” Bacani assured in a video message released Wednesday.
The Mass was being held at the headquarters of El Shaddai, a Catholic charismatic group, in Parañaque City.
Bacani, who is also El Shaddai’s spiritual adviser, fell from his feet while raising the consecrated host. According to him, his legs “gave up”, which caused his collapse.
The 81-year-old, however, still managed to finish the Mass while seated and immediately underwent medical examination.
“I’m all clear: heart is strong, blood pressure is normal, and no more recurrence of the ulcer that I had six months ago,” said Bacani, who celebrated his 56th priestly anniversary yesterday.
Bacani formerly served as Auxiliary Bishop of Manila until he was appointed as the first bishop of Novaliches in 2002.
