A top Catholic leader has called on young people to lead the way for the country and the Church.
In a dialogue with Manila’s youth on Aug. 17, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle urged them to bring their energy, ideas, dreams, and youthfulness to the church.
He said that young people should not just be receivers but also givers because the Church needs their gifts and enthusiasm.
“Guide the Church, don’t just be receivers. Please guide us, teach us also,” Tagle said during the 3rd Usapang Totoo at Katoto (UTAK) at the Nazarene Catholic School in Manila’s Quiapo district.
“Lead us too so that the world of the youth, which we sometimes don’t understand, will be brought to Jesus,” he said.
The cardinal was responding to question on where the Church is bringing the young people after the Year of the Youth.
He said that the celebration, through listening, was hoped to deepen the participation of the youth in the life of the Church.
“The first dream of the Year of the Youth is for us to harvest the learnings and deepen it in terms of programs and accompaniment of the youth for the years to come,” Tagle added.
“We hope that after the Year of the Youth, the young people who were listened to will also serve as teachers and guides of the Church,” he also said. CBCPNEWS
